Library Information
The University, initially known as Andhra Pradesh Open University, was set up on 26th August 1982 through on Act of the A.P.State Legislature (APOU Act 1982).
Subsequently, the University was renamed as Dr.B.R.Ambedkar Open University on 26 October, 1991 by the Government of Andhra Pradesh.
The Open University Library was started in the year 1983. The Central Library is located in the main campus of the University at Jubilee Hills, Hyderabad.
Library serves the needs of the teaching, non-teaching, research scholars and students of the University. Students are allowed for reference purpose only.
Library Infrastructure

The main objects of the Library are: 

·         To develop an appropriate collection in various disciplines to support the faculty in preparation of course material.

·         To help the self learning process of distance learning.

·         To support research

·         To provide reading, lending, reference, information services to the staff, researchers and students.

·         To develop a special collection of distance education books and journals.

·         To develop IT enabled library & Information services to reach out the distance learner community.

Library Committee

The University Library has a Library committee to plan and monitor its developmental activities.

The Committee is headed by the Vice-Chancellor as Chairman and all the Directors of various branches and Deans of Faculties are members and Librarian as Convenor of the committee.

The Committee meets twice in a year to finalize the allocation of budget and other matters pertaining to library administration.



          The University Library receives annual grants from the University’s resources and DEB, UGC Development Grant.

Library is a member of the eShodhSindhu Consortium and subscribes to various electronic resources at negotiated prices to serve the needs of faculty and Researchers.
These resources can be accessed remotely by the library members. Links are provided in the library website to access these resources. The resources subscribed by the library include -

Plagiarism Software

 Urkund Plagiarism Software access is provided by INFLIBNET to the members of eShodhSindhu consortium. Library provides plagiarism reports to the faculty and students on demand.
Endowment Sections:

• Narla Endowment Library (A collection of 18,000 rare and valuable books) donated by late Sri V.R. NarlaVenkateswara Rao, a renowned Journalist, writer and politician.
• Prof.G.Ram Reddy Personal Collection of 1765 Books and Reports on Distance Education donated by late Prof. G. Ram Reddy, Founder Vice-Chancellor of Dr.BRAOU
• Prof.V.S.Prasad Personal Collection of 700 books, Former Vice-Chancellor, Dr.BRAOU.

IT Enabled Services

All the in-house operations of the Library are computerized. The Library automation commenced in the year 1998 as a Turnkey Project assigned to University of Hyderabad. The project was completed in the year 2001.
 The library database (including the Endowment Libraries) is accessible to all the academic departments of the University through the Local Area Network (LAN) and can be remotely accessed using the URL:
The Central Library has Internet facility. Library is equipped with CCTV Surveillance system and Electronic Article Surveillance. 3M EM (Electro-magnetic) Library Security System, ensuring that no material leaves the Library without being properly issued /checked out.

Library Working Hours

The Library is open from 10.30 AM to 5.00 PM for reading and reference purposes Monday through Saturday. The circulation desk operates from 11.00 A.M to 4.30 P.M. The Library is closed on Sundays and all gazetted holidays.
Rules & Regulation

• Students must show their Identity Card at the Main Entrance of the University Library. Students without Identity Card are not allowed inside the Library.
• Outside students are NOT ALLOWED inside the University Library.
• Outside books/ reading material/Mobile/Cell phones/ valuable items, etc. are NOT ALLOWED inside the University Library.
• All the students are advised to keep their personal belongings, such as attaché cases, brief cases, satchels, bags, umbrellas, etc, books not belonging to the University Library
and books though borrowed from the library but not meant to be returned to the library, shall be deposited at the Property Counter at the entrance to the library.
